What Makes CrossFit Different?

Every class is programmed in advance and led by an experienced coach. You’ll be guided through a warm-up, coached on the movements you’ll be performing, complete the workout with your class, and finish with guidance on recovery and technique.
This structured approach removes the guesswork from training.
Instead of wondering what exercises to do or whether you’re training effectively, you simply turn up, follow the programme and receive coaching throughout the session.
Is CrossFit Suitable for Beginners?
Absolutely.
One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that it’s only suitable for experienced athletes. In reality, some of our newest members have never stepped foot in a gym before.
Every workout is fully scalable, meaning exercises, weights and intensity can all be adapted to suit your current fitness level.
At BaseFitness & CrossFit East Kilbride, all new members complete a two-session induction with one of our coaches before joining regular classes. During these one-to-one sessions, you’ll learn the fundamental movements, develop confidence with the equipment and gain an understanding of how CrossFit classes are structured.
By the time you join your first class, you’ll already have the knowledge and confidence to train safely alongside everyone else.
What Happens During a CrossFit Class?
Every class follows a structured format.
Although the workout changes each day, sessions typically include:
- A warm-up to prepare your body for training
- Coaching and skill development on the movements you’ll be using
- A strength or technique section where appropriate
- The Workout of the Day (often referred to as the WOD)
- A cool-down or recovery period
Throughout the class, coaches provide hands-on guidance to help you improve your technique, move safely and get the most from every session.
Do I Need to Be Fit Before I Start?
No.

You don’t need to lose weight before joining a gym, build strength before trying CrossFit or improve your fitness before attending your first class.
